They are an Indigenous people of the northwestern Amazon, living primarily along the Vaupés (Uaupés) River and its tributaries in Brazil (Amazonas state) and Colombia (Vaupés Department). They are an Indigenous people in the South American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Piratapuyo and their primary religion is Animism.
