Overview:
The Kurmi are a numerically large and widely distributed cultivating caste, having eleven main endogamous divisions including: Baiswar, Bardhiha, Gangapar, Gujarati, Jaiswar, Kanaujiya, Kharebind, Patariha or Patthariha, Rash, Saindiwar or Saithwar and Singraur. They are a landowning and agricultural community also involved in the domestication of cows and buffaloes.
