Overview: The Uyghurs are a Turkic people who today are concentrated in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Other Uyghurs live in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Isolated subgroups of Tibetan Buddhist Uyghur still remain in China, but the vast majority of Uyghur are Sunni Muslims of the Hanafi school.
