South Asian Peoples
The Chamar are a Dalit community of India. They are found throughout the Indian subcontinent, mainly in the northern states of India and in Pakistan and Nepal. They are also known as Bhambi. Dalit is a Sanskrit term meaning "broken or scattered" and refers to the lowest caste in India, often characterized as "untouchable".
