Southeast Asian Peoples
The Tai Dam are an ethnic group of Vietnam, Laos, China and Thailand. The Tai Dam trace their origins to the Dien Bien Province in northwestern Vietnam. Within Vietnam, where they are most numerous, they are recognized as a distinct ethnic group, though in other countries they are considered as just one of many Tai peoples. The Tai Dam language is similar to Thai and Lao, but not close enough to be readily understood by most Thai or Lao speakers.
