Overview: Amazigh are the indigenous ethnic group of North Africa west of the Nile Valley. The Amazigh-Shawiya people cluster encompasses the Shawiya of the Aures Mountain region of eastern Algeria. Traditionally, the term "Berber" has been used by outsiders to refer to the Amazigh, but the term "Berber" is inherently discriminatory and the endonym "Amazigh" is preferred.
