The Azerbaijani are a Turkic people living mainly in northwestern Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The two major linguistic varieties of Azerbaijani, Northern and Southern, account for some 26 million people, but several smaller ethno-linguistic communities are included within the Azerbaijani people cluster, including: Kashkay, Khalaj, and Salchuq.
