They are an ethno-religious community of German Anabaptists who fled religious persecution in Europe prior to the 18th century, initially settling in Pennsylvania, then reolocating to Ontario after the Revolutionary War. They mostly adhere to Protestantism and Pennsylvania German is their primary language.
