They are described as an ethnic group indigenous to the Senegambia region and widely disbursed in Sahara, Sahel, and West Africa They are an Indigenous people, with Fulani (Fula, Fulbe) as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Fulani / Fulbe people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Islam. They primarily speak Fulfulde, Adamawa.
