The Faqir of India

The Faqir of India, numbering approximately 113,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a widely distributed Muslim mendicant community whose name derives from the Arabic faqr, meaning poverty, tracing spiritual descent from the Caliphs Abu Bakr and Ali, and traditionally sustained by begging alms in Allah's name. They are an Indigenous people in the Urdu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
