They are a Tai-Kadai-speaking ethnolinguistic group indigenous to the border area of southwest China and eastern Myanmar. They are an Diaspora people in the Tai people cluster of the Southeast Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Tai Nüa and their primary religion is Animism.
