They are a linguistic subgroup of the Muna people of Indonesia, indigenous to Indonesia's Sulawesi province and can also be known as Liabuka. They are an Indigenous people, in the Tukangbesi of Sulawesi people cluster of the Malay Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni. They primarily speak Indonesian.
