They are described as a Scheduled Caste weaving community of Gujarat descended from the Bharwad, traditionally spinning and weaving wool supplied by patrons into blankets and shawls, a status marked by a legendary ancestor's contact with a dead animal They are an Indigenous people, with Dangashia / Dangasiya as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Gujarati people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Gujarati.
