They are a small Karnataka community of religious mendicants and deity displayers whose onomatopoeic name echoes the rasping sound of the drum they play while begging door to door with an idol of their deity Durgawa. They are an Indigenous people in the Telugu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Telugu and their primary religion is Hinduism.
