They are a diaspora community of Nepalese origin settled across the Himalayan and northeastern states of India, originally arriving as soldiers, encompassing many castes such as Brahman and Chhetri. The Gurkha have a long history of military service. They are an Diaspora people in the Nepali-Pahari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Nepali and their primary religion is Hinduism.
