Once hunter-gatherers, they now practice settled cultivation, basket-making, and forest produce collection They are an Indigenous people, with Kocu Wellan as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. They mostly adhere to Hinduism and Malayalam is their primary language.
