They are a small agricultural Sheikh (Shaikh) community of northern India, predominantly found in western Uttar Pradesh. They are an Indigenous people in the Shaikh people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
