The Bawarchi of India

The Bawarchi of India, numbering approximately 177,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Sunni Muslim occupational community of traditional cooks, whose name derives from the Urdu word for cook and who trace their arrival in India to serving with Babar's army. They are concentrated in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and often suffix Qureshi. They are an Indigenous people in the Urdu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
