The Atisbaz of India

The Atisbaz of India, numbering approximately 3,900 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Muslim artisan community of North India, especially Uttar Pradesh, historically known as makers of gunpowder and fireworks—an occupation dating back to the Mughal era, from which their name (“fire players”) is derived. They are an Indigenous people in the Urdu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
