They are a Rajput-descended community of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar tracing origin to Bundelkhand. Their name may derive from a term for sword-bearer. Agriculture remains their main occupation. They are an Indigenous people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Bundeli and their primary religion is Folk Hinduism.
