They are a caste community of Hindu Tulu speakers from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Kerala who traditionally cultivated land and claim descent from Parashuram, now engaged in diverse occupations including hotel business and professional services. They are an Indigenous people in the Other South Asian people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Tulu and their primary religion is Hinduism.
