They are an ethnolinguistic subgroup of the wider Uzbek people group, a Turkic ethnic group indigenous to the Central Asian region and can also be known as Southern Uzbek. They are an Indigenous people, in the Uzbek people cluster of the Turkic Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni. They primarily speak Uzbek, Southern.
