They are an ethnolinguistic community of Tanzania, southeast Tanzania, mostly Lindi region, Nachingwea, Ruangwa, and Lindi Urban and Rural districts, north of Makonde They are an Indigenous people, in the Bantu, Makua-Yao people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni. They primarily speak Mwera (Tanzania, Lindi Region).
