They are an ethnolinguistic subgroup of Han Chinese originating from the Yangtze River area of China's Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces . They are an Indigenous people, in the Chinese people cluster of the East Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Chinese Folk Religion. They primarily speak Chinese, Wu.
