The Wapixana of Guyana

The Wapixana of Guyana, numbering approximately 6,400 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are an Arawak people of Guyana's southern Rupununi savannas between the Takutu and Kwitaro rivers, driven south from the Rio Branco basin by the Macushi under European pressure before being conscripted to labor at a Portuguese fort by the late 1700s. They mostly adhere to Ethnoreligion and Wapishana is their primary language.
