The community claims to have come from north India to Warangal and then gone on the Bastar along with a ruler of the Kakatiya dynasty Bhatra, Bhatta, Bhattri, Bhottada, भट्तरा They are an Indigenous people, with Bhatra as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. They mostly adhere to Folk Hinduism and Bhatri is their primary language.
