They are a Mali subsection of Boudh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, and Dhenkanal districts, Odisha, who migrated from Sonepur, traditionally priests at Shiva temples. This role continues, alongside service. They are an Indigenous people in the Mali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Odia and their primary religion is Hinduism.
