The Basith trace their origins to Vashisth Rajputs, cultivators who settled in Poonch after migrating from Chamba. They are an Indigenous people, in the Kashmiri people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Pahari-Potwari.
