They are described as a community of glass bangle makers and sellers found across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, with both Hindu members called Kacher and Muslim members called Kachera. Their name derives from kancha, meaning glass They are an Indigenous people, with Kachera as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Odia people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Odia.
