They are described as a Scheduled Tribe of the Jaunsar Bawar region in Uttar Pradesh, spanning high-status Brahman and Rajput groups and lower-status Kolta groups. They are agriculturists who historically practiced polyandry They are an Indigenous people, with Jaonsari as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism. They primarily speak Jaunsari.
