The Bhisti of India

The Bhisti of India, numbering approximately 690,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a widely distributed Muslim water-carrier community, also known as Sakka, whose name derives from the Persian bihisht ("paradise") for the service they rendered to thirsty soldiers. They trace their ancestry to Hazrat Abbas Alamdar. They are also known as Bihishti. They are an Indigenous people in the Urdu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
