They are one of the subdivisions of the Barasana people—a Tucanoan-speaking indigenous group located in the northwest Amazon, especially in Colombia and can also be known as Baré, Hanera, Barawana. They are an Indigenous people, in the South American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion. They primarily speak Nhengatu.
