They are a federally and state-recognized Indigenous tribe in Virginia, descended from several Algonquian-speaking tribes that merged in the late 17th century . They are an Indigenous people, in the North American Indigenous people cluster of the North American Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Native American religions. They primarily speak English.
