The Pochammalollu of India

The Pochammalollu of India, numbering approximately 7,500 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a mendicant community of Nanded district, Maharashtra, and neighboring Andhra Pradesh linked to a smallpox epidemic, traditionally alms-seekers carrying the goddess Pochamma. Mat-weaving and agricultural labor now supplement begging. They are an Indigenous people in the Telugu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Telugu and their primary religion is Hinduism.
