The Karlar of India, numbering approximately 58,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Tamil-speaking community of Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu whose name means ruler of the clouds. Settled cultivation remains their traditional occupation, supplemented by government and private service. They are an Indigenous people in the Tamil people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Tamil and their primary religion is Hinduism.
