They are an Odisha community of Andhra origin identifiable by their traditional priestly dress, engaged in temple priesthood, cultivation, and the ceremonial blowing of the conch-shell at weddings. They are an Indigenous people in the Odia people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Odia and their primary religion is Hinduism.
