The Banai are recognized as a tribal group closely associated with the Koch people, particularly in Meghalaya and Assam. They are an Indigenous people in the Bengali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Assamese and their primary religion is Hinduism.
