They are a distinct indigenous community (Adivasi / Scheduled Tribe) of central India, historically concentrated in Maharashtra and parts of Madhya Pradesh. They are an Indigenous people in the Marathi-Konkani people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Marathi and their primary religion is Hinduism.
