They are a traditional Hindu religious and service community of South India, best known historically as itinerant devotees, temple servants, storytellers, and mendicant‑teachers, especially associated with the worship of Vishnu and local village deities. They are an Indigenous people in the Telugu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Telugu and their primary religion is Hinduism.
