The Alavan of India

The Alavan of India, numbering approximately 10,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are an occupational caste of Tamil-speaking Hindus from southern Tamil Nadu traditionally engaged in salt-making, distributed across Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Chidambaranar and Ramanathapuram districts. They are an Indigenous people, in the Tamil people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Tamil.
