They are a caste community of Bihar and West Bengal who speak Bengali and Hindi, trace their descent from Rajput warriors, and are primarily engaged in cultivation and farming. They are an Indigenous people in the Bihari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Bengali and their primary religion is Hinduism.
