They comprise numerous regional and caste-based communities that typically retain their local languages and cultural identities They are an Indigenous people, with Jain as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the South Asian Jain people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. They mostly adhere to Jainism and Tamil is their primary language.
