They are a distinct division of the Cree Nation, traditionally inhabiting the lowland and swampy regions of northern Manitoba, northeastern Saskatchewan, and northern Ontario, especially along the Hudson Bay and James Bay coasts. They are an Indigenous people, in the North American Indigenous people cluster of the North American Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Christianity - Protestantism. They primarily speak Cree, Swampy.
