They are a linguistic subgroup of the Cree who speak French or have cultural ties to French-speaking regions, especially in Quebec. They are also known as Michif, Mitchif, Métis. They are an Indigenous people in the North American Indigenous people cluster of the North American Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is English and their primary religion is Protestantism.
