The Kambar of India

The Kambar of India, numbering approximately 37,500 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Tamil-speaking community, also called Occhan, named for the poet Kamban. The Kambar traditionally serving as temple musicians and priests in Kali temples. One subgroup teaches classical Bharatanatyam dance. They are an Indigenous people in the Tamil people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Tamil and their primary religion is Hinduism.
