They are a metalworking community of West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha, also called Karmakar, believed in legend to descend from the celestial craftsman Vishwakarma. They traditionally forge iron, brass, gold, and silver, and are Hindu. They mostly adhere to Hinduism and Bengali is their primary language.
