The Kaniyar of India

The Kaniyar of India, numbering approximately 133,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a community of traditional astrologers in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu whose name derives from the Sanskrit ganak, meaning astrologer. Many still practice astrology, though most also work in agriculture and business. They are an Indigenous people in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Malayalam and their primary religion is Folk Hinduism.
