They are described as an occupational caste community of Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur and Varanasi districts, the Bayar speak Bhojpuri and Hindi, practice rice cultivation and agricultural labor, and worship Hindu deities including Mahadeva They are an Indigenous people, with Biar (Bayar) as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Bhojpur-Maithili people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Bhojpuri.
