They are described as a Scheduled Tribe migrant from Goa now settled in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan under names including Gamta, Gavit, and Vasava, traditionally agriculturists who in Rajasthan work as contract labor for other communities They are an Indigenous people, with Gamit as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism. They primarily speak Gamit.
