The Cheruman of India, numbering approximately 471,000 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are described as a Malayalam-speaking Dalit community of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, historically agricultural serfs whose name is said to derive from Cheraman, the people of the ancient Chera country. They are also known as Cherumakkal, meaning sons of the soil They are an Indigenous people, with Cheruman as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Malayali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Malayalam.
